In episode 15 of his Five Things podcast, Brian Smith talks with Carrie Haub about the Friends of Wake County Guardian ad Litem Program and how it is helping to positively impact children in the Raleigh area. Carrie is co-owner of Buzzy Bakes Mobile Cupcakery and Coffee Bar.

The mission of the Friends of Wake County Guardian ad Litem Program, founded in 1991, is to enhance the lives of at-risk children and their caregivers through programs which promote their physical, educational, and emotional well-being, and to provide support for the Wake County GAL program.

The mission of the Friends of Wake County Guardian ad Litem Program is to enhance the lives of at-risk children and their caregivers through programs which promote their physical, educational, and emotional well-being, and to raise funds and otherwise provide assistance for the use and benefit of the Wake County Guardian ad Litem Program in representing and serving abused, neglected and dependent children.

In 1983, the North Carolina General Assembly established the Office of Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Services as a division of the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts. Pursuant to G.S. 7B-601, when a petition alleging abuse or neglect of a juvenile is filed in district court, the judge appoints a volunteer Guardian ad Litem advocate and an attorney advocate to provide team representation to the child. All Guardian ad Litem advocates are trained, supervised, and supported by program staff in each county of the state.

The 2nd Annual “Light the Way” Gala will be held on November 21, 2019 in Raleigh.
